Description
.- Explore the mechanisms that control the aging process and its relationship with the development and progression of various diseases.
.- Study in a comprehensive manner these diseases characterized by neuronal degeneration with special emphasis on cognitive deficits and the impact of environmental factors.

.- The Mexican adult population experiences a condition of overweight and obesity, positioning Mexico as one of the countries with the highest prevalence in the world with the consequent increase in comorbidities. Paradoxically, malnutrition and undernutrition are still common causes of disease in Mexico. Energy homeostasis is the continuous and dynamic process of energy intake, digestion, storage and expenditure to maintain basal body functions, as well as other activities of the individual. It is evident that in recent years the energy equation has shifted towards an overaccumulation of energy reserves (overweight/obesity) induced by an increase in caloric intake and a sedentary lifestyle. It is important to note that caloric restriction, one of the experimentally described non-invasive interventions to increase healthy lifespan, has recently been revealed as an alternative to increase lifespan in a large number of experimental models and to decrease the incidence of chronic degenerative diseases. Therefore, it is essential to understand the molecular basis of caloric restriction and energy homeostasis in order to propose successful pharmacological/nutritional interventions as well as effective clinical approaches.
.- This branch of knowledge uses neurosciences and psychology as a transdisciplinary and modern approach to understand the functioning of the brain, for the detailed and systematic analysis of behavior, as well as the intricate brain-body relationships. Various fields of science, including biology, chemistry, mathematics, medicine, and physics are also essential in the study of the nervous system and its interactions with other systems.
.- To evaluate the population parameters of aging in Mexico and its relationship with the development of chronic degenerative diseases and probably contribute to healthy aging in the population.
