Research Programs


Through its Research Programs, the University seeks an integral understanding of relevant topics and contributes to enriching knowledge. It also promotes collaboration among groups of researchers in order to integrate efforts in the process of disciplinary convergence.

The Programs require the participation of the academia of at least two campuses and their activities are defined within the framework of the guidelines of the Research Programs Regulations.

Research Program for Sustainability (PISUS)

The objective of the Program is to generate applied research in planning and sustainable development, promoting a diversity of projects from UAM

The projects seek to identify and reorient the critical dynamics of water management, forest resources, biodiversity, agricultural soils, and solid waste in order to achieve sustainable management systems through continuous processes of collaborative construction.

The Program is structured in five lines of research: a) Water and Territorial Management; b) Agroecology; c) Forestry and Biodiversity; d) Integrated Solid Waste Management; and e) Production, Organization, and Solidarity Economy.

Childhood Research Program

Childhood Research Program

The Program has the participation of faculty from the divisions of Social Sciences and Humanities, Sciences and Arts for Design, and Basic Sciences and Engineering of the Xochimilco, Azcapotzalco, and Iztapalapa Campuses.

The groups work in forming research networks that allow the follow-up and feedback of actions in favor of the quality of life of children and youth in Mexico.

The Program represents Mexico in the Childwatch International Research Network, based in Norway. It collaborates on regional and global projects that follow up on the commitments derived from the Convention on the Rights of the Children.

Human Development in Chiapas Research Program

This Program seeks to articulate research work with professional training and service. It collaborates with the University through its substantive activities and seeks alternatives to advance the human development of the sectors of the population that are in unfavorable conditions.

For the Program, human development is understood as the set of processes (technical-productive, socioeconomic, cultural, political, and organizational) aimed at achieving well-being and guaranteeing all human rights, supporting the development of all human capacities of those involved through the work of diverse social actors.

Research Program for the Study of Integration in the Americas

The Program is dedicated to studying, training, and disseminating scientific knowledge on the different facets of economic, social, and cultural integration in the Americas. Faculty from the following academic campuses participate: Azcapotzalco, Iztapalapa, and Xochimilco.

It organizes meetings aimed at the research community and the general public, based on four lines of research: i) Formal Integration in the Americas; ii) Globalization and Integration; iii) Financial Dimension of Integration; and iv) Cultural, Social and Political Aspects of Integration.

Metropolitan Studies Research Program

Metropolitan Studies Research Program

The Program's main objective is to study and understand the aspects that make up territorial phenomena to improve people's quality of life by contributing to the solution of specific problems experienced by all types of human settlements in Mexico.

The Program's research activities contribute to the study and understanding of territorial processes and phenomena in all dimensions. This is done through the construction of direct links between the academic production of knowledge, governmental institutions, and social organizations that directly impact the management of territories.

Groups of professors from all UAM academic campuses participate in these activities, as well as specialists from other institutions and organizations throughout the country.
