Profile

Dr. Kioko Rubí Guzmán Ramos earned her degree in Biological Pharmaceutical Chemistry from the Faculty of Chemistry at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). In 2005, she began her graduate studies in UNAM's Biomedical Sciences PhD program, where she investigated molecular processes underlying memory acquisition and consolidation.

She also worked with a murine model of Alzheimer's disease, describing dopamine-related deficits linked to cognitive impairment and examining how high-calorie diets influence cognitive performance. After completing two postdoctoral fellowships—one at Texas A&M University and another at UAM Lerma—she joined the Department of Health Sciences in 2015 as an Associate Professor and advanced to Full Professor in 2018.

From 2019 to 2023, she served as the Department of Health Sciences' leader. She belongs to Mexico's National System of Researchers (Level II) and is a member of both the Society for Neuroscience and the Mexican Society for Physiological Sciences.

Her research explores how chronic exposure to high-calorie diets affects cognitive function and investigates the mechanisms that drive these effects, aiming to develop pharmacological and non-pharmacological strategies to prevent or reverse their negative consequences.
