1. - Define the meaning and scope of the contemporary globalization process from a theoretical perspective; study the processes of regionalization and the formation of economic blocs, as well as their relationship with the globalization process; evaluate the advances in multilateral openness within the World Trade Organization; analyze the main economic integration processes: European Union, APEC, MERCOSUR, FTAA, as well as the emergence of south-south integration processes; study the processes of monetary integration and restructuring of financial systems, as well as the impact of globalization on economic instability and the development of crisis processes.
2. - To study the economic and social effects of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) in Mexico, as well as its impacts by sector and by branches of economic activity; to define the changes in the structure of trade, foreign direct investment and portfolio capital flows among the three NAFTA signatory countries; To analyze the development of the U.S. economy and its impact on the Mexican economy; to study the so-called "NAFTA plus", that is, the efforts of the three governments of the region to deepen the integration process; to follow up and evaluate the progress of the Security and Prosperity Agreement of North America, in terms of energy and natural resources integration, migration and security policies.
3. - From the perspective of development theory, analyze the relationship between the integration processes in Latin America and the process of economic and social development in the region; study the movement of foreign capital in the region and its impact on the operation of national economies; analyze the foreign debt and the processes of indebtedness of the countries in the region; to carry out comparative studies of the specific development processes of the main countries in the region; to analyze development models and alternative development strategies in Latin America; to evaluate the role of the market, the State and institutions in the development processes; to study structural changes in the labor markets in Latin America: employment, underemployment and migration.
