Semblanza

Nacido en la Ciudad de México en 1961, el Doctor Sentíes estudió Biología en la Facultad de Ciencias, UNAM de 1980 a 1984; asimismo y en la misma institución, concluye la maestría y el doctorado en Ciencias (Biología) en 1993 y 2000, respectivamente.

En 1985 ingresó como profesor investigador de Tiempo Completo Indeterminado por concurso de oposición en la Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, Unidad Iztapalapa, en donde ha desarrollado toda su carrera académica. En 1989-1990 realizó una estancia en el Instituto de Botánica de Sao Paulo, Brasil; también realizó estancias cortas en el Smithsonian Institute en Washington, DC. y en el Jepson Herbarium de la Universidad de California, campus Berkeley, en 1998 y 1999, respectivamente. Posteriormente en la Universidad de La Laguna en Tenerife, Islas Canarias, España (2006, 2010) y la Universidad de Azores, Portugal (2011).

Desde 1998 pertenece al Sistema Nacional de Investigadores alcanzando en 2013 el Nivel II, el cual mantiene hasta la fecha. Ha publicado 97 artículos, 87 indexados en revistas científicas especializadas, además nueve capítulos de libros y dos libros, siempre alrededor de la Ficología Marina, en temas de taxonomía, sistemática filogenética, florística, ecología, biogeografía, filogeografía y biología de la conservación. Sus trabajos han sido citados en cerca de 1100 ocasiones. El Dr. Sentíes ha dirigido ocho tesis doctorales, cuatro de maestría y 17 trabajos para la finalización de licenciatura, sumados a la impartición de mas de 300 cursos a nivel licenciatura y posgrado. Asimismo, en el Instituto de Botánica, en la Universidad de Sao Paulo y en la Universidad de Pernambuco, Brasil, ha impartido cursos a nivel posgrado. Ha sido responsable de proyectos de investigación en la UAM Unidad Iztapalapa, Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia del Gobierno Español, de la Red Latinoamericana de Botánica en Chile y del Instituto de Botánica y la Universidad de Sao Paulo, Brasil.

Su labor académico administrativa ha sido diversa, desde representante titular ante Consejo Divisional (1988-1989), pasando por coordinador de la licenciatura de Hidrobiología (1990-1993), jefe del área de Hidrobiología Experimental (1994-1995), posteriormente, jefe del Deparatmento de Hidrobiología (2000-2004), miembro de la comisión del Doctorado en Ciencias Biológicas (2007-2011), coordinador de la Maestría en Biología (2011-2013), hasta coordinador divisional del Posgrado en CBS (2013) y actualmente ocupa el puesto de jefe del área de Ficología Comparada (2014-). Finalmente, ha desarrollado la labor de editor en jefe y asociado de diversas revistas nacionales e internacionales. Como ejemplo, en la revista Hidrobiológica (1995-2007) y coordinador editorial de la división de CBS (en 2 periodos: 2007-2011; 2019-) de nuestra institución.
