Professor Jorge Salvador León Dousset has completed a distinguished academic and professional career that began between 1959 and 1963 at the then National School of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). During his formative years, he acquired a solid foundation of knowledge and experience that paved the way for a remarkable professional trajectory. He furthered his career with postgraduate studies at prestigious research institutes in Spain and Costa Rica, where he developed essential scientific skills for thinking and acting in favor of animal welfare and health. His work has focused on the design, implementation, and evaluation of macro and microclimatic environments for productive animal husbandry. Additionally, he has been actively involved in the development of national programs for the monitoring and control of the quality and safety of animal-derived food intended for human consumption.

Throughout his career, Professor León Dousset has made significant contributions to environmental management in productive breeding facilities, including the study of ecological effects related to the conservation of natural resources, such as water, deforestation, and the management of biological waste. His approach has always been oriented towards mitigating negative impacts on the environment.

In the educational field, his participation has been equally notable. He has taught in various areas of biological sciences, clinical medicine, and animal science and has held academic leadership positions at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science of the Autonomous University of Yucatán, as well as in the Department of Agricultural and Animal Production at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, Xochimilco Campus. Furthermore, he has been invited to collaborate in curriculum design consulting and in the development, implementation, and evaluation of study plans at various veterinary schools and faculties in Mexico.

Professor León Dousset has also been actively involved in professional organizations, with his contributions standing out in the Mexican Association of Veterinary Medicine Schools and Faculties, as well as in the National College of Veterinary Doctors. In the field of professional evaluation, he collaborated with the National Center for Higher Education Assessment (CENEVAL) and the National Veterinary Education Council (CONEVET) in the implementation of veterinary professional evaluations.

Among the recognitions received throughout his career, the honor of having the library at the Biological and Agricultural Sciences Campus of the Autonomous University of Yucatán named after him stands out, along with earning a professional certificate in e-learning for Distance Education granted by the Monterrey Institute of Technology, and being recognized as a leader in the modern conception of veterinary education by the Biological and Health Sciences Division of the Xochimilco Campus of the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana. In 2019, the Federation of Veterinary Doctors' Colleges and Associations (FedMVZ) awarded him the Professional Merit Award.
