Profile
Dr. María Isabel de Fátima Luengas Aguirre served as a tenured professor and researcher in the Department of Health Care at the Xochimilco Campus of the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM). Throughout her career, she taught bioethics courses in the Master's Program in Medicine and Oral Pathology, as well as in the Diploma Program in Bioethics.
A dental surgeon from the Universidad Veracruzana, she also earned master's and doctoral degrees in sociology from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). Additionally, she specialized in Fundamental Bioethics through the PAHO and the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos in Lima, Peru, and in Clinical Bioethics through the PAHO and the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic.
During her career, she was a visiting professor of Bioethics at the Universidad Veracruzana and a health personnel trainer. In 2005, she served as an advisor to the National Bioethics Commission. At the Xochimilco Campus of UAM, she also taught in the undergraduate program in Stomatology.
She was a member of the National System of Researchers (Level I) and contributed to more than 60 articles on health, education, and self-care, in addition to participating in the creation of outreach materials and specialized books. She also served as a member of the evaluation committee for the Dental Surgery program at the Faculty of Higher Studies Zaragoza of the UNAM.
Throughout her career, Dr. Luengas Aguirre participated in community health programs funded by the Kellogg Foundation and coordinated a diabetes early detection program in the dental clinics of the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana.
