Profile

Dr. Areli Flores Martínez is a full time visiting associate professor "D" ascribed to the Department of Cultural Studies of the CSH division of UM, Lerma campus, since January 2022.

She studied the PhD in Social Sciences in the area of "Society and Education" at UAM, Xochimilco campus, and the Master's degree in Science with a specialization in Educational Research at DIE-Cinvestav-IPN advised by Emilia Ferreiro with the thesis Thinking language through writing. Metalinguistic reflection of bilingual Tsotsil school children in a translation context. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics and Hispanic Literature at BUAP.

She is the author of several academic papers on language education and language policy published in indexed journals, as well as a book chapter published by El Colegio de México. She has designed and taught courses for faculty at CCH-UNAM, through the DGCCH, where she served in the Academic Portal of this institution from 2011 to 2017.

She has participated as a speaker, organizer and reviewer of several conferences and colloquiums on linguistics and educational research. She has been editor and coordinator of two collective books. Her most recent publication is the manual University Reading and Writing Practices, Department of Cultural Studies/UAM (ISBN: 978-607-28-2690-8).

She is the coordinator of the Permanent Seminar on Language Teaching and Critical Literacy (SPELLC) at UAM, which aims to train undergraduate and graduate students in research and generation of teaching materials with Digital Technologies on issues related to language education and critical literacy.
