Profile

Dr. Adrian holds a degree in Agricultural and Animal Husbandry from the Antonio Narro Autonomous Agrarian University. He completed his Master's and Doctoral studies at the Postgraduate College in the area of Genetic Resources and Productivity - Livestock. His thesis addresses the inclusion of the probiotic Saccharomyces cerevisiae in lambs and its effect on production, rumen dynamics, carcass quality, and expression of the protein stearoyl CoA desaturase in the Longissimus dorsi muscle. His main findings point to yeast as a strategy to improve production performance and carcass fat quality by increasing the deposition of essential fatty acids important for consumer health.

Since 2017, Dr. Adrian has completed two postdoctoral fellowships, the first funded by PRODEP for the project "Evaluation of Herbal Additives in Dairy Cattle" and the second funded by CONACYT for the project "Evaluation of an Herbal Additive in Dogs: Changes in Live Weight, Blood Metabolites, and Gene Expression." These studies, using DNA microarrays, allowed the evaluation of the effect of the additives on the animal's genome and the identification of the main benefits promoted by the phytochemicals in the herbal mixtures. The results highlighted the relevance of these additives in immune response, energy metabolism, disease prevention, and production efficiency, which has opened new lines of research.

Before becoming a permanent professor, Dr. Adrian participated as a visiting professor in the Department of Agricultural and Animal Production at the Autonomus Metropolitan University, Xochimilco Campus, addressing the use of Nutrigenomics as a strategy to strengthen animal feed management. Currently, he belongs to the National System of Researchers Level 1 and to the Veterinary Sciences and Animal Production research area with the project "Strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in ruminants".

His research areas are Animal Nutrition, Animal Production, Feed Additives, and Nutrigenomics. At the undergraduate level, Dr. Adrian has coordinated the modules on Energy and Consumption of Essential Substances and Nutritional and Feed Management of Animals. At the graduate level, he has directed and co-directed research projects for Master's and Doctoral students in Agricultural Sciences. He believes that research is a means of generating knowledge, and that this knowledge should be disseminated to society with an approach that allows for the resolution of major national problems. In this regard, he encourages his students in the Bachelor's Program in Veterinary Medicine and Animal Husbandry to present the results of their modular research projects at outreach events called Modular Meetings through scientific posters at the end of each term. The goal is for students to believe in their work and its impact on the greater good, strengthening their confidence as future professionals.
