Profile

Professor Cecilia Itzel Noriega Vega is an art historian with Recognition for Academic Excellence and a Master's degree in Art Studies with Honorable Mention. She holds a Ph.D. in History and Critical Art Theory from the Universidad Iberoamericana. She conducted research at the Interdisciplinary Institute for Gender Studies at the University of Buenos Aires. Currently, she works as a full-time professor-researcher in the Associate D category at the Division of Sciences and Arts for Design in the Design Evaluation Department at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, Azcapotzalco Unit, in the field of Urban Studies.

She has worked as an adjunct professor at the Department of Art at the Universidad Iberoamericana and in the Gender and Inclusion Program. Her area of study focuses on artistic interventions in public spaces and cartographies from a gender perspective. She has published in peer-reviewed journals, including notable articles such as "From the Street to the Museum: Affections in Elina Chauvet's Red Shoes Installation" (2025), "Project Vivas: Visibility and Denunciation of Femicide in the Public Sphere through Art" (2023). Additionally, she has conducted research on mural interventions, writing articles like "The Impact of Tepito Arte Acá on the Construction of Identities of Tepiteña Women" (2019) and chapters for "Street Interventions and their Performative Implications" in Imágenes en colectivo Grupo Suma (1976-1983) (2020). The latter book won the García Cubas INAH Prize in 2021. She has also contributed to publications like "Nuevo Muralismo" in the Centro Histórico Mural Guide.

She has participated in research on feminist graffiti in public spaces, such as Critical Memories on Gender Violence in Feminist Graffiti, presented at the Centro de Investigaciones en Arte y Patrimonio CIAP-CONICET/ Universidad Nacional de San Martín/ Peru / Buenos Aires in 2021. For her research, she was awarded the FICSAC IBERO Research Recognition in 2022. She has also collaborated with several research groups, such as Narrating Art and Feminist Eastern Europe Latin American, conducted in partnership with the University of Warsaw and The Getty Foundation, and is currently part of the GEAP (Group of Public Art Studies in Latin America), coordinated by Carolina Vanegas of the Universidad Nacional de San Martín, Centro de Investigaciones en Arte y Patrimonio.
She has curated several national and international exhibitions, including the co-curation of Vivas estamos, estamos vivas, Violentómetro: Artivismo and Género en la Ciudad de México which was presented at the Museo Regional de Guanajuato Alhóndiga de Granaditas during the 2022 International Cervantino Festival. Finally, she has made significant contributions to the diffusion and preservation of culture by giving lectures and being part of the organizing group for the Editatonas de Mujeres Artistas, which works in collaboration with museums and Wikimedia Mexico to research the work of women artists.
