Professor Estela Teresita Méndez Olvera studied Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). She later obtained a Master's degree in Animal Production and Health Sciences at the School of Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics in the area of infectious diseases and molecular pathogenesis. Subsequently, she studied for a Ph.D. in Biological and Health Sciences at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) Xochimilco Campus, where she focused on studying the host-parasite relationship in the development of infectious diseases.

She worked in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics for ten years and is currently in the Department of Agricultural and Animal Production at the UAM Xochimilco Campus.

She has directed seven Master's theses and three Ph.D. theses. She is currently a National Researcher Candidate of the National System of Researchers of CONACyT and received the Recognition and Support of Desirable Profile PRODEP - SEP.

She is in charge of the Molecular Biology Laboratory of the Department of Agricultural and Animal Production, which belongs to the network of National Laboratories of Nutrigenomics and Animal Digestive Microbiomics (LANMDA).
