Profile

Professor Fernando Rivera Cabrera received his B.Sc. in Biology from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM), his M.Sc. in Agricultural Science focused in fruits from the Colegio de Postgraduados (CP) and his Ph.D. in Experimental Biology at UAM. He did a Postdoctoral stay focused on Post-harvest Physiology and Biochemistry at the University of California-Davis USA. He is a Professor at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, Iztapalapa Campus (2003 to date).

He currently directs the research laboratory in Post-harvest of Phytogenetic Resources and Natural Products, where research projects related to the application of technologies for the conservation of fruits and vegetables, biochemistry and molecular biology of plants, plant responses to oxidative stress, natural products, and bioactive compounds in plants and their effect on nutrition and health as well as the use of phytogenetic resources for direct consumption or for the extraction of active ingredients of pharmacological or food interest are developed.

In addition to the research focused on reducing food waste and ensuring food safety. He belongs to the SNI since 2007: SNI I (2007-2017); SNI II (2018-2021). Has published 50 articles in indexed journals and participated in 161 national and international congresses. He graduated 16 undergraduate, four master's, and four doctoral students, and one more in process.
