Professor Roberto Olivares is a Chemical Engineer who graduated from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) Iztapalapa Campus. M. in C. (chemical engineering) from UAM Campus. Doctorate in Biosciences from the Technical University of Chalmers, Sweden. Currently, he is a Professor at the Department of Process and Technology at UAM Cuajimalpa Campus. He is a member of the National System of Researchers, Level I.

His research work focuses on design and simulation for process engineering, mainly in process optimization. Development of computational tools for applications in systems biology, synthetic biology, and metabolic engineering.

In the educational field, he participates as a professor in the Biological Engineering degree and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Graduate Program at the Cuajimalpa Campus and has taught more than 15 different courses in mathematics and engineering. He has participated in the development of didactic material for teaching mathematics at the undergraduate level. Coordinator and co-author of the book Problemas de Ingeniera Biológica edited by UAM Cuajimalpa Campus. He won the Teaching award 2018 by the UAM Cuajimalpa Campus.

He has provided consultancy for the design and optimization of processes in the chemical industry, specifically in the creation of absorbers for the cleaning of air effluents and in the statistical analysis of data and analysis of genomic sequences to improve plants and microorganisms for food production.
