Professor Luis Ortiz Hernandez has graduated as a Technician in Dietetics, Bachelor in Nutrition, Master in Social Medicine, and Doctor of Science in Collective Health. He is a Professor in the Department of Health Care at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) Xochimilco.
Professor in the Bachelor's Degree in Human Nutrition and the Doctorate in Biological and Health Sciences of the Xochimilco Campus of the UAM. Tutor in the Graduate Program in Health Sciences at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). Visiting Professor at Queen's University of Canada. National Researcher Level II by CONACYT.
His research has focused on the following topics: a) Social inequalities in health, food, and nutrition. b) Evaluation of school children and adolescents' body composition, physical activity, and energy expenditure. c) Nutritional counseling at the first care level promotes healthy eating. d) Health damage associated with discrimination due to racism, homophobia, and weight stigma.
Author of more than 100 scientific articles (in journals such as European Journal of Clinical Nutrition, Health & Place, Journal of Physical Activity & Health, Social Science & Medicine, Salud Pública de México and Public Health Nutrition, Journal of Homosexuality) and three books, including the book "Fundamentos de nutrición para la consulta nutriológica. A theoretical-practical guide for the promotion of healthy eating through counseling techniques" published by Trillas. Responsible for the Nutrition and Physical Activity Laboratory.
