Professor María del Carmen de la Peza Casares studied the Bachelor´s degree in Information Sciences and Techniques at the Universidad Iberoamericana, the Specialty in Television Production at the BBC in London, England, and the Doctorate in Philosophy at the University of Loughborough, England. She is a Distinguished Professor at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM), Xochimilco Campus, in the Department of Education and Communication of the Division of Social Sciences and Humanities. She is a founding member of the AMIC, where she co-coordinates the GT of Communication Theories.

She participated in the design of the initial project of the Bachelor of Communication and the Master of Communication and Politics of the UAM Xochimilco Campus, she has taught courses at the bachelor's, master's, and doctorate levels. She has supervised 47 undergraduate theses, 17 Master's theses, and five Doctorate theses.

She currently works on topics of music, culture, and politics, language policies in Mexico, and qualitative research methodologies and discourse analysis and participates in national and international research networks on these topics.
