Profile
Dr. Adelfa del Carmen García Contreras graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana - Xochimilco Campus in 1983, followed by a postgraduate degree in Animal Nutrition Sciences from the Colegio de Posgraduados in 1994, and a Doctorate in Veterinary Sciences from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spain, in 2010.
Since 1987, Adelfa has been teaching undergraduate courses at the Xochimilco Campus of UAM, and since 2000, she has contributed to the postgraduate level at the same institution. Her teaching experience also extends from 1988 to 2002 at UNAM-FMVZ.
In the field of research, she has been involved in national and international projects, collaborating with institutions such as FAO, the Ministry of Agriculture of Spain, the European Union, and the Ministry of Economy of Spain. At the national level, she has led projects supported by the Federal Government, State Governments, and the Xochimilco Campus of UAM.
Her academic production includes 10 manuals and 4 support books for the Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science degrees. In the last five years, she has published 15 peer-reviewed articles and 8 dissemination articles, contributing to the advancement of knowledge in her field.
She has actively participated in conferences and technical committees at both national and international levels, giving a total of 32 presentations and serving on 8 technical committees in advisory roles. Her involvement also includes inter-institutional roles representing Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science.
At the professional level, she has excelled as an advisor in Nutrition and Reproduction, Zoogenetic Resources, and Environmental Management. She has served as the coordinator of the Swine Zoogenetic Resources Network CGG-SADER and as the representative of FAO for Zoogenetic Resources in North America.
She has been involved in the training of professionals, supervising 26 undergraduate theses and 22 master's theses. She has been recognized with 11 awards and honors for her contributions to the development of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science.
