Profile

Doctor Jorge Castro Mejía is a Professor ETAS Level 6 in the Department of Man and his Environment. His Departmental Research Area is Biological Strategies for the Use of Aquatic Natural Resources.

He studied Biology in 1984 at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) Iztapalapa Campus. Master of Science degree in 2004, Iztapalapa Campus. Ph.D. in Biological and Health Sciences in 2011 (UAM). Joined UAM Xochimilco Campus as assistant in 1984 and currently as Professor, sixth level of ETAS.

Seniority of 33 years, member of the Department of Man and his Environment in the Departmental Research Area Biological Strategies for the Use of Aquatic Natural Resources. Head of the Research Area from 1996-1998; 2003 to date. Member of the Laboratories of Live Food Production. Closed Circulation Systems with Biofloc. Functional Food Production.

Responsible for research project since 1999, being the current project: The effect of nutritional composition of feed, light, temperature, and salinity on the survival, growth, and reproduction of planktonic organisms used as live food in aquaculture, valid from 2014 to 2019.

Delivery of Courses at the Undergraduate level: Interdivisional, Divisional and Career (Biology) Trunk: mainly Secondary Production, plus Pests and Diseases of a RNR, and Community Analysis (Total 70). Up to the first quarter of 2018. Postgraduate level teaching in the Master's Degree in Applied Ecology: Module IV: Technology Transfer in the field of Applied Ecology, and Agricultural Sciences (In total 35).

National and International Research Articles: 102. Papers presented in National and International Specialized Events: 103. Courses given: 16. Doctoral thesis: one. Refereed articles: 91.

Member of the Divisional Review Committee of CBS 1999-2003. Coordinator for the Accreditation of the Bachelor's Degree in Biology by the DCBS in 2004. Participant of the Research, Evaluation and Resources Commissions of DEHA. Member of the Commission for the elaboration of the Document of the Master's Degree in Applied Ecology (2004).

Editor in charge of the DEHA's DIGITAL MAGAZINE E-BIOS (2010 to date). DEHA Professors' Representative before the Divisional Council (1991, 1995, 1998). Titular Representative of the DEHA Professors to the Academic Council (2011-2012). PRODEP Professor. Teaching Scholarship. Permanence Scholarship. Stimulus to Teaching and Research Level C. Responsible for the Academic Link of the Ornamental Fish Product System Committee, Mexico City.
