Professor María García Castro holds a B.A. in Sociology from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), an M.A. in Social History from the School of Higher Studies (EHESS), Paris, France; M.A. and Ph.D. in Anthropological Sciences from the Universidad Autónoma de México (UAM).

She is currently a Full-Time Professor at the Department of Sociology of the Division of Social Sciences and Humanities of the Azcapotzalco Campus of the UAM, where she has worked as Director and Editor of the journal Sociology, Department of Sociology; Representative of the Department of Sociology to the Editorial Board, Coordinator of the Teaching Axis of Political Sociology from 2008 to 2011, Divisional Coordinator of Research from 1992 to 1996 and Divisional Coordinator of Academic Development from 1998 to 2001.
