Profile

Dr. María Alberta García Jiménez was born in the State of Puebla. She held a Bachelor's degree in Nursing from UAM, Xochimilco Campus; a Master's degree in Health Organization and Hospital Administration, a Doctorate in Administrative Sciences from UNAM; a Doctorate in Nursing Sciences from the Federal University of São Paulo, Brazil; and a Postdoctoral degree in Health Care Management from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, UFERJ, Brazil.

She received recognition at UAM as a Member of the National System of Researchers from 2008 to 2019, at Level I.

She was a Member of the Advisory Council for Directors of the Mexican Council of Nursing Certification A.C. from 2016 to 2020, and of the Technical Council for Nursing Education at the General Directorate of Professions of the SEP, representing UAM.

In her scientific development, she was awarded the Gold Medal from the National Academy of Nursing in Mexico as an outstanding researcher in 2015. She participated in the creation of the National Academy of Nursing in Mexico (ANEM) in 2010, which remains active.

She managed and coordinated the Doctorate in Nursing Sciences and the Doctorate in Public Health, which were achieved through a collaboration agreement between the National University of Trujillo, Graduate School, Peru, the National Academy of Nursing in Mexico, and the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana Xochimilco Campus; from which 28 doctors graduated, representing 12 states in the country from universities in Veracruz, State of Mexico, Tlaxcala, Sinaloa, Nuevo León, Mexico City, Puebla, Oaxaca, Yucatán, Tabasco, Guerrero, and Campeche.

She led the Academic Group "Elderly Care" and "Human Resources Training in Care Management" from 2019 to 2020. She was a member of the National Nursing Commission, at a national level, of leaders in the profession, serving as a trainer and manager of health services. She participated in the creation of the Master’s in Advanced Practice Sciences at UAM. She was responsible for the area of continuing and distance education at UAM, Xochimilco Campus, in 2011, and at the General Rectorate from 2014 to 2017.

Until 2020, she served as a Full-Time Titular C Professor-Researcher, DAS/DCBS, UAM Xochimilco Campus since 1978; a member of the Research Area on Health States and Services, DAS; a member of the Academic Group on Elderly Care, Nursing Care Management and Leadership for the Professor Development Program, SEP; with Profile from the Professional Development Program PRODEP; a Certified Quality Professor by the Mexican Council of Nursing Certification; and President of the National Academy of Nursing of Mexico. She supervised doctoral and master's theses, as well as final service projects for UAM students. She participated in national and international conferences and was responsible for various doctoral, master's, and undergraduate courses, as well as continuous education seminars in Mexico and other countries.

Among her lines of research were Health Organization Management and Leadership, registered in CONACYT; Elderly Care, registered in the Academic Bodies Program for Professional Development in Higher Education PRODEP/SEP; functionality and degree of dependency of the elderly in Tláhuac, Mexico City; health-related quality of life, protective and risk factors for older adults.

She was a project evaluator for postdoctoral training for CONACYT in 2019, with approved projects from the Department of Health Care DCBS/UAM, Xochimilco Campus.

She directed the administration of health care management, a project approved by the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in the postgraduate Nursing and Biociences Doctoral program; and the project on gender studies and violence among adolescents, in the Master’s program in Women's Studies at the ENEO, UNAM.
