Profile
Born in April 1960 in Mexico City, Professor Aída Marisa Osuna Fernández has had an outstanding academic career. In 1975, she received the National Youth Valor Medal, awarded by the Government of the Republic through the National Institute of Mexican Youth. She earned her undergraduate degree in Biology and a master's degree in Plant Biology at the Faculty of Sciences of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), where she was honored with the Gabino Barreda Medal for her performance in the master's program.
She served as a Full-Time C Professor in the Department of Man and His Environment, Division of Biological and Health Sciences, at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM), Campus Xochimilco. Throughout her teaching career, she taught at the Faculty of Sciences at UNAM in the subject of Plant Physiology from 1986 to 2004 and, since 1994, at UAM's Campus Xochimilco, where she contributed to modules such as Fundamental Cellular Processes, Energy and Consumption, Life Histories, and Primary Production. She was also the lead researcher in the Plant Biology Laboratory, focusing her research on the use and propagation of medicinal plants in Mexico.
She stood out as the head of the Xochitlalyocan Garden of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants project at UAM’s CIBAC, as well as the "From the Garden to Your School" social service program. She coordinated several research projects, including the Academic Network for Plant Biology and Classroom Communication, funded by CUDI-CONACYT, and other studies on the physiology and anatomy of various Mexican plant species.
Throughout her career, Professor Osuna Fernández also participated in the validation of reagents for the General Examination for Graduation from the Bachelor’s Degree in Biology (EGEL-BIO) by CENEVAL and was accredited in the Program for the Improvement of Professors (PROMEP) by SEP.
