Profile

Dr. Zeferino Damián Noriega was born in August 1951 in Alpuyeca, Morelos. He was a mechanical engineer, graduating in 1974 from the Higher School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering at the National Polytechnic Institute. He worked for a year and a half in the automotive and metalworking industries. He completed a specialization internship in Project and Metalworking Manufacturing at the École Nationale des Arts et Métiers in France, from October 1976 to June 1977. He worked in the metalworking industry from 1977 to 1988. He joined the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM), Azcapotzalco Campus, in December 1988, and pursued his Master’s and Doctorate in Science in Mechanical Engineering from 1997 to 2003 with a scholarship from the UAM for postgraduate studies. He earned an Honorable Mention for the highest grade point average in his Master’s degree.

He was a permanent full professor at level C, engaging in the core functions of teaching, research, and cultural dissemination, with teaching recognition and tenure support scholarships, reaching ETAS level five and receiving PRODEP recognition for two periods. He also served as the coordinator of the research group Mechanical Systems of the Frontier and was a member of the Divisional and Engineering Review Committees, the Electrical Engineering Program Committee, and the Committee for Awarding the Teaching Recognition Scholarship. He served as Head of the Mechanics and Mechatronics Area, recently created at the 498th Ordinary Session of the Academic Council of the Azcapotzalco Campus, held on September 19, 2022, under Agreement 498.6.

He participated in international conferences in the United States, Cuba, Guatemala, Peru, Argentina, and Spain. He received a recognition from the College of Engineers of Peru on November 30, 2019, in honor of his outstanding work in scientific research.
