Profile
Dr. Romualdo López Zarate was a Full Professor (Titular C) at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM), Azcapotzalco Campus, and a founding professor in 1974. He held a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from UIA and UNAM, a Master’s degree in the Methodology of Science from IPN, and a Doctorate in Education from the Universidad Autónoma de Aguascalientes, with the distinction “Magna cum Laude.”
He served as an undergraduate, specialization, master’s, and doctoral professor in Sociology at UAM, UNAM, and other higher education institutions in Mexico. He supervised undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral theses in Sociology.
His areas of interest included higher education, research programs and projects on governance in higher education institutions, public policies on higher education, and higher education financing.
He published numerous articles in specialized journals, book chapters, individual and collective books, and presented papers at national and international conferences. He conducted research sponsored by ANUIES, PIIES, SEP, and CONACYT.
He served on the editorial boards of Revista de la Educación Superior, Revista Mexicana de Investigación Educativa, Revista Electrónica de Investigación Educativa, and the REPORMA newspaper, Education section.
He received multiple honors: the ANUIES Award for Best Doctoral Thesis in Higher Education (2002); the International Chair for Mexican Higher Education (2004–2005); Member of the National System of Researchers (Level II); Member of the Governing Board of the Universidad Veracruzana (2006–2011); President of COMIE (2008–2009) and the 10th National Congress of Educational Research; among other recognitions.
