Dr. Miguel Ángel Armella Villalpando (1958-2025)
He was a Professor in the Department of Biology
of the Division of Biological and Health Sciences.
Joined the institution in the year of 1983 and retired in 2025.

In memoriam
Dr. Miguel Ángel Armella Villalpando (1958–2025) had an early interest in animal behavior. His initial training was as a Biologist specialized in plant population ecology at the National Autonomous University of Mexico.
He earned his Doctorate at the University of Arkansas, focusing on basic issues of animal behavior. Upon returning to Mexico, he developed research lines on the behavioral ecology of endangered carnivores, especially the Mexican wolf.
Simultaneously, he worked on sustainable production projects for edible cacti, particularly the pitaya, in collaboration with Dr. María de Lourdes Yáñez L.
