Profile

Professor Manuel Rodríguez Viqueira holds a PhD in Architecture from the Wroclaw University of Science and Technology in Poland (1986), where he also worked as an Associate Researcher at the Institute of the History of Architecture, Art, and Technology (1976–1982).

Throughout his distinguished academic career, he served as a Tenured Professor in the Division of Sciences and Arts for Design at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, Azcapotzalco Campus (1982–2007), and as an Adjunct Professor at the National School of Conservation, Restoration, and Museography (1990–1998). In 2007 he joined the Division of Communication and Design at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, Cuajimalpa Campus, as a Tenured Professor in the Department of Design Theory and Processes, where he continued his academic work until his recent retirement.

He has played an active role in university administration, serving as Area Head, Divisional Research Coordinator, and Department Head in the CyAD Division at the Azcapotzalco Campus. He also coordinated the Graduate Studies Commission of the National Association of Schools of Architecture (ASINEA). In addition, he served as Vice-Rector of the Universidad Iberoamericana Graduate Division in Salamanca, Spain, and later as Regional Director of the same institution.

He has taught undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral courses in several institutions, most notably at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana and the National School of Conservation, Restoration, and Museography in Mexico, and at the Wroclaw University of Science and Technology in Poland.

He has participated in academic committees and curriculum development consulting groups. He is a Level-3 member of the National System of Researchers, a full member of the National Academy of Architecture, and served on the Engineering and Technology Committee of the Scientific and Technological Advisory Forum (2003–2007). He also served on the XIII Board of Directors of the National Solar Energy Association (2004–2006).

His publications include numerous conference proceedings, academic journals, and collective volumes, and he is the author or coauthor of six books in the field of architecture.

During his career, he has supervised ten master’s students and four doctoral students in the field of architecture. He has also served as a design and architecture advisor for UNESCO and the ALBAN Program of the European Community, and as an evaluator in various processes for CONACYT and INAH.

Professor Rodríguez Viqueira has received several awards, including the UPW Award for Best Doctoral Theses (IHAST, 1986), the UAM Teaching Award (1999), the CANIEM “Juan Pablos” Award (2001) in the category of Higher and Professional Technical Education Texts, and the UAM Textbook Award (2002). He has also been honored with multiple recognitions throughout his academic career, most recently in 2015, when he was named a Distinguished Alumnus of the Wroclaw University of Science and Technology in recognition of his academic achievements.
