Profile

Víctor Manuel Ortega Esparza is a retired professor, researcher, visual artist, designer, and editor, born in Mexico City in 1958. He graduated in Social Communication from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, Xochimilco Campus, and earned a master's degree in Visual Arts from the National School of Plastic Arts at UNAM.

Throughout his career, his artistic production has spanned multiple disciplines, including painting, sculpture, printmaking, digital graphics, installation, and sound art. His work has been selected and exhibited at national and international biennials and salons in countries such as Mexico, Spain, Argentina, Canada, the United States, Germany, Portugal, Italy, and many others. He has held 5 solo exhibitions and participated in over 90 group exhibitions, with some of his works incorporated into cultural institutions and museum collections.

Not Exceeding is Distinguishing, a project sponsored by Fonca (1996).
Thresholds, a series of public sculptures (2007-2009).
First Mexican Contemporary Print Biennial, National Museum of Printmaking (2009).
Pictographic Score, a sound art piece presented at MUAC (2010).
Exhibitions at the International Contemporary Print Biennial 'Iosif Iser' (2011-2017).
International exhibitions at the McAllen International Museum of Art & Science, Texas, USA (2011), and the José Guadalupe Posada Museum, Aguascalientes, Mexico (2013).
Awards and Distinctions:

Special Award at the International Ex Librises Competition, Lithuania (2018).
Multiple honorable mentions at national and international biennials in printmaking and visual art, such as the First Mexican Contemporary Print Biennial (2009) and the International Small Engraving Salon, Romania (2009).
