Profile

Dr. Ángel Manzur Guzmán was born in the San Miguel ranchería, in the municipality of Jalapa, Tabasco. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Physics from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México and his doctorate from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana.

He was a tenured professor at UAM, Iztapalapa Campus, in the Department of Physics. He was also a member of the National System of Researchers (SNI). His research focused on the field of physical chemistry of macromolecules. He had extensive experience teaching physics at the university level and was particularly interested in finding ways to motivate students to improve their performance in studying this science.

He was the author of the book Steps for Problem Solving: Examples of Elementary Mechanics, published by Plaza y Valdés and UAM. This work won the Textbook and Educational Material Writing Contest organized by UAM, Iztapalapa Campus. His outstanding contributions to teaching earned him the First Prize for Teaching awarded by UAM.

Research Line
• Physical Chemistry of Macromolecules (Polymers).

Research Topics
His main research topics in polymers and their objectives were as follows:
• Blends. Improving the mechanical properties of polymers, particularly through strain-induced crystallinity.
• Biodegradability. Modifying the physicochemical characteristics of non-biodegradable polymers to make them biodegradable.
• Double Creep Phenomenon. Studying the mechanisms involved in the double creep phenomenon in semicrystalline polymers.
