Profile

Dr. María del Carmen Guadalupe Osorno Escareño was born in November 1950 in Mexico City. She earned her degree in Dental Surgery from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), completed a Master of Science and a Specialty in Pediatric Dentistry at the School of Dentistry, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA, between 1976 and 1978, and obtained her Ph.D. in Dental Sciences from UNAM at the Faculty of Dentistry, Division of Graduate Studies and Research, on April 23, 2003.

She served as a full-time professor with a permanent appointment at the level of Titular C from 1978 until her retirement, at the Metropolitan Autonomous University (UAM), Xochimilco Campus, in the Division of Biological and Health Sciences, Department of Health Care, in the Bachelor of Stomatology program and the Interdivisional Core Curriculum in the Clinical Sciences Area.

She maintained a private practice in Pediatric Dentistry between 1979 and 2008. She was head of the Masticatory Physiology Laboratory from 2016 to 2019; led teaching programs from January to September of 2009–2010; served as service chief of the Design and Testing (Clinical) Laboratory in Tepepan during the evening shift between May and October 1984, and was director of the same laboratory in the morning shift from 1982 to 1984. She also served as service chief in the morning shift between October 1982 and May 1984.

On May 18, 1994, she participated in the revision of the Bachelor of Stomatology curriculum and contributed to the development of higher education academic programs in Mexico. That same year, she authored the modules “Oral Health,” “Humans and Their Environment,” “Prenatal Growth and Development,” “Primary Dentition: A Physiological Unit of Occlusion,” and “Growth and Development in School-Age Children,” and coordinated the development of some of them.

In 2007, she co-authored the book Removable Partial Denture Prosthetics, alongside Ángeles Medina Fernando, Carmen Osorno Escareño, Patricia Alfaro Moctezuma, and Gabriela Romero Esquiliano, published by UAM. In 2005, she contributed as co-author of Chapter 5, titled Functional Masticatory Assessment Using Refleximetry Technique, in the book Orofacial Pain and Temporomandibular Disorders, published by Editorial Trillas in Mexico. In 1990, she published the Manual of Clinical Activities in Pediatric Dentistry, also with Editorial Trillas.

She published research and outreach articles and presented her work at various specialized events.
