In memoriam

Dr. Rodolfo Quintero held a degree in Chemical Engineering from UNAM, a Master’s in Chemical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a Ph.D. in Biochemical Engineering from the University of Manchester. He was a Level III researcher in Mexico’s National System of Researchers.

Throughout his career, he participated in numerous committees, evaluation panels, and juries for national and international awards in research and technology. He served as a consultant for international agencies within the United Nations System and global foundations, advising Mexican and international companies, as well as the governments of Brazil, Costa Rica, Cuba, and Uruguay, on scientific and technological policy planning and industrial property matters. Additionally, he was a member of the Board of Directors for six companies.

Dr. Quintero also excelled in academia as a professor-researcher at UNAM, UAM, UAEM, and the Javier Barros Sierra Foundation, A.C. He held significant leadership roles, such as Director of the Center for Biotechnology Research at the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Morelos, Director of the Technology Transfer Center at the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León, and Secretary for Research and Development at UNAM.

He was the founder of UAM’s Cuajimalpa Campus and served as the first Director of the Division of Natural Sciences and Engineering at that campus.

In the governmental sector, he held key positions, including Coordinator of Innovation and the Biotechnology Program for Petroleum at the Mexican Petroleum Institute, General Director of Project Development and Promotion at the Ministry of Energy, Mines, and State-Owned Industry, and Director of the Project for the New Production Plant for Biologicals and Reagents at the Ministries of Health and Energy, Mines, and State-Owned Industry.

In the private sector, he founded and served as General Director of Biofer, a consultancy specializing in biological processes, and was also the founder and Technical Director of Genín, S.A. de C.V., a company dedicated to technological development in the biological field. Over his career, Dr. Quintero provided consultancy services in both public and private sectors, nationally and internationally.
