Dr. Luis Fernando Cofas Vargas holds a PhD in Biochemical Sciences from the Institute of Chemistry at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). During his graduate studies, he developed a comprehensive specialization that links the use of computational tools and molecular dynamics for drug design and molecular recognition with a solid experimental foundation in biochemical and biophysical techniques for the expression, purification, and functional characterization of proteins.
His career is distinguished by a firm commitment to human resource development, actively participating in thesis supervision, the creation of academic content, and teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels. This work in scientific dissemination was recognized in 2021 with the award for best oral presentation at the International Symposium on the Search for New Antimicrobial Alternatives in Bogota, Colombia, for his research on the design of allosteric inhibitors for ATP synthase.
Currently, Dr. Cofas serves as a Visiting Professor at the Universidad Autonoma Metropolitana, Iztapalapa Campus, within the Department of Chemistry in the Biophysicochemistry Area. In this role, he focuses his research efforts on the search for inhibitors of the ATP synthase of Escherichia coli, continuing his line of study on molecular targets of antimicrobial relevance.
Throughout his career, he has maintained a constant and outstanding scientific production, with more than fifteen articles published in international journals and several works in the process of peer review. His work is strengthened through multidisciplinary collaborations with prestigious institutions such as the Institute of Fundamental Technological Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IPPT PAN) and the University of Groningen.
