Dr. Elvi Gil Liévana holds a Bachelor's degree in Pharmaceutical Biochemistry from the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (BUAP) and a Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), alongside postdoctoral research at CINVESTAV-IPN. She serves as a Full Senior Professor (Titular C) at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana Unidad Lerma and is a member of Mexico's National System of Researchers (SNII).
Her research framework specializes in neuroscience, centering on the gut-brain axis to understand how neural circuits integrate gastrointestinal and microbial signals regulating appetite, reward, and feeding behavior. Additionally, she investigates the neural mechanisms of learning and memory influenced by internal physiological states. To address these questions, she employs a multidisciplinary approach combining optogenetics, electrophysiological recordings, behavioral analysis, and molecular neurobiology.
She brings extensive experience in research, teaching, and student mentorship in biomedical sciences, backed by scientific publications in high-impact international journals such as Nature, Communications Biology, and eLife.
