Yver Alonso Melchor Hernández holds a Ph.D. in Cultural and Educational Policy Studies from Loyola University Chicago (Loyola). He earned a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Public Administration from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and a Master's degree in South Asian Studies from El Colegio de México.

He has coordinated Leadership and Peace Education programs in Bolivia and the Netherlands. Dr. Melchor Hernández has served as a civil servant in the areas of Youth, Education, and Human Rights within the Mexican Federal Government. He collaborated with UNESCO's Futures of Education Initiative and has held academic appointments as Lecturer of Education at the Facultad de Filosofía y Letras at UNAM, Lecturer of Comparative Education at Loyola, and lecturer of Politics at both Lake Forest College and the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, Cuajimalpa Campus. Dr. Melchor Hernández is now an Assistant Professor of the Department of Politics and Culture at the Xochimilco Campus of the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana.
