Profile
Professor Luis Mier y Terán Casanueva studied for a B.Sc. and a Ph.D. in Physics at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). Founder of the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM), where he joined the Iztapalapa Campus Physics Department during its initial period in 1974. He has participated intensively in the activities of that Department within the Physics of Liquids Research Group, teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Physics.
As for the research activities, he has developed analytical and numerical solutions of nonlinear integral equations of Statistical Physics of Equilibrium, in uniform and non-uniform fluids. In 1981 he was a Research Associate of the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science of the University of Minnesota and later, in 1988, Visiting Scholar of the Supercomputer Institute of the same university.
He has participated in the development of UAM as Consejero Académico, Head of the Physics Department, Director of the Division of Basic Sciences and Engineering, President of the Iztapalapa Campus, and General President of UAM. He resumed his academic activities in the Physics Department in 2014, dedicating himself, since then, to teaching and research.
