Profile

Professor José Javier Contreras Vizcaíno has a Degree in Sociology from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, FCPyS-UNAM, with the thesis “The Enlightenment and German Romanticism in the shaping of modern thought”; a Master's Degree in Sociology, Ad-Honorem, from the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla, ICSyH-BUAP, with the thesis “Alienation and fetishism in Marx, Adolfo Sánchez Vásquez and Bolívar Echeverría. Antagonism, Contradiction and Revolution”; and a Ph.D. in Sociology from the same University, ICSyH-BUAP, with the thesis “Doing with our own hands. Crisis, urgencies and problematizations of the OPFVII”.

He is a member of the International Network of Critical Theory Researchers (SETC) and of the Center for Philosophical and Cultural Studies.

Professor Contreras received the Research Stimulus for doctors CONCYTEP in 2022, for his research on the material and possibilities conditions of students in Puebla during the COVID-19, as well as the effects and affections that the pandemic produced on students from BUAP and the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana Xochimilco Campus.

He has articles and book chapters of this research, as well as on the topics of teachers' working conditions, subjectivity of and for work, revolution, autonomy and utopia. Likewise, He has coordinated two books on social theory and epistemologies of science and arts.

His current research projects are related to the processes of subjectivity formation in temporary teachers of the public IES in Mexico and the collective memories of the communities in resistance for water and life in Mexico.
