Dr. Alejandro Román Vásquez is a Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics within the Division of Basic Sciences and Engineering at the Iztapalapa Campus of the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM).
He holds a Ph.D. in Mathematical Sciences with a specialization in Statistics from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana; a Master’s degree in Applied and Industrial Mathematics from the same institution; and a Bachelor’s degree in Physics from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). He completed a postdoctoral research stay at the Center for Research in Mathematics (CIMAT) under the 2021 CONACyT Postdoctoral Fellowships for Mexico program.
His research focuses on survival data modeling, multivariate distribution modeling through copulas, variable selection using the statistical knockoffs methodology, and time series analysis. His work has been published in national and international journals such as Computational Statistics, Communications in Statistics: Theory and Methods, International Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences, Statistical Methods in Medical Research, SahuarUS (Electronic Journal of Mathematics), and Estudios Económicos. Some of the methodologies he has developed have had an impact in the medical field, contributing to the validation and identification of key biomarkers for distinguishing survival outcomes or diagnoses in patients with various diseases.
In his research, he employs open-source computational tools, primarily the programming languages R and Python, enabling him to conduct rigorous and reproducible analyses and to implement complex statistical models. He is a member of the Data Science Research Group in the Department of Mathematics at the Iztapalapa Campus of UAM, led by Dr. Gabriel Núñez Antonio and Dr. José Héctor Morales Bárcenas. He has supervised undergraduate and master’s theses.
He maintains a strong commitment to academic collaboration and teamwork with colleagues and students, fostering the exchange of knowledge and experience. His professional goal is to contribute to the advancement of scientific research through the development of innovative statistical techniques.
