Professor José Ignacio Ponce Sánchez holds a Ph.D. in Social Sciences with a specialization in Economics, Management, and Innovation Policy from the Xochimilco Campus of the Autonomous Metropolitan University (UAM), as well as a Master's degree in Economics and Innovation Management from the same institution. He completed postdoctoral studies at the Autonomous Technological Institute of Mexico and conducted research at the University of Stuttgart in Germany. Professor Ponce Sánchez also holds a diploma in investment project evaluation from the UAM. He earned his bachelor's degree in economics from the UAM in Mexico.

He is a research professor in the Department of Institutional Studies at the UAM Cuajimalpa unit. He is a Level I member of the National System of Researchers in Area V (Social Sciences) and has been recognized as having a desirable PRODEP profile since 2025.

He has published more than 20 books and journal articles. He has participated in over 50 national and international academic conferences. He has advised master's and doctoral students on their theses.

He worked as a teacher at the undergraduate level for two years at the Autonomous Technological Institute of Mexico (ITAM) and has worked since 2019 in the undergraduate programs in Administration, Law, and Economics at UAM Cuajimalpa and UAM Xochimilco. As a graduate professor, he has taught courses in the graduate programs in economics, management, and innovation policy; the doctoral program in social sciences; and the master's and doctoral programs in humanities and the comprehensive graduate program in administrative sciences at the same institutions.
