Profile

Dr. José Domingo Ordoñez Gómez is a native of Mexico City. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Biology in 2008 from the Faculty of Sciences at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). In 2011, he obtained his Master’s degree in Biological Sciences from UNAM’s Graduate Program in Biological Sciences, conducting research on predictors of acoustic variation in agonistic vocalizations of the spider monkey (Ateles geoffroyi). In 2016, he completed his Ph.D. in Science at UNAM, focusing on the effects of habitat loss and fragmentation on stress levels in this species.

From 2016 to 2019, he carried out a postdoctoral research stay at the Cognitive Ethology Laboratory of the German Primate Center (Deutsches Primatenzentrum GmbH), affiliated with the Georg-August University of Göttingen, Germany. During this period, he studied predictors of acoustic variation in contact vocalizations of spider monkeys.

He has published in high-impact international journals in his field, including American Journal of Primatology, International Journal of Primatology, Behavior Research Methods, and PLOS ONE. He is a Level I member of Mexico’s National System of Researchers (SNII).

His current research focuses on analyzing the physiological and behavioral information encoded in the vocalizations of both human and non-human primates.
