Profile
Dr. Ismael Martínez Cortés is a Veterinary Surgeon with experience in dairy cattle production. He pursued a master's degree in pharmacology with a special interest in the treatment of bovine mastitis. Subsequently, he completed a doctorate in immunology at the Institute of Biomedical Research of UNAM, focusing on the anti-inflammatory effect of macrolides in the mammary gland. Upon completion, he undertook a research stay at the Mammalian NutriPhysioGenomics Laboratory at the University of Illinois, where his research focused on nutrigenomics.
Currently, Dr. Martínez Cortés serves as the head of the Toxicology Laboratory in the Department of Agricultural and Animal Production at UAM Xochimilco. In this role, the laboratory focuses on researching molecular adaptations of tissues (mRNA, microRNA, proteins, and microbiome) to physiological changes and their regulation through nutrition and/or drugs. The primary animal models used are cattle and horses. Key areas of study include the regulation of oxidative stress and the inflammatory microenvironment, mammary development in cattle, bovine and equine hepatic pathophysiology, and immune function.
