Professor Erika Cecilia Castañeda Arredondo has a degree in Graphic Communication, a Master´s in Visual Arts (honorable mention), and a Ph.D. in Arts and Design (honorable mention) from the Faculty of Arts and Design of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). She has professional experience in web design, animation, and information design.

She has an outstanding teaching career since 2006 in different universities such as Universidad Iberoamericana, Universidad Anahuac, ITESM; and since January 2018 to date, in the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) Cuajimalpa Campus, within the Department of Theory and Processes of Design (DTPD), Division of Communication Sciences and Design (DCCD), teaching the UEA with outstanding results in didactic terms and dynamics of teaching-learning, and participating of commissions in charge of designing inter-unit diploma courses, and adjustments to the plans and programs of the UEA of the Bachelor of Design of the DCCD. For her performance at Cuajimalpa Campus, she received the 2019 Teaching Award.

She has made relevant production in her discipline through refereed articles, dissemination articles, lectures at national and international level, master classes, papers registered in proceedings of national and international congresses, which focus on the issues involved in the convergence of design, digital technologies, art and politics.

She has advised and directed Master's and Ph.D. theses in Arts and Design at the Faculty of Arts and Design of the UNAM.

Her lines of research are located in the convergence of design, art, technology, and politics. As a result of her work at the DTPD, she initiated a research on the teaching-learning processes of design at the Cuajimalpa Campus, through the project entitled: "Design and Agency. Critical notes for the teaching of integral design at the Cuajimalpa Campus of the UAM".

She currently serves as Head of the Department of Theory and Processes of Design for the period 2020-2024.
