Dr. Hypatia Arano Varela obtained her Doctor's degee in Biotechnology from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM). She currently holds a Full-time Associate Professor position since 2022 at the Department of Health Sciences of the UAM-Lerma Campus (State of Mexico, Mexico).

Her research interest lie in the isolation and molecular identification of cultivable microorganisms to obtain secondary metabolites and enzymes with industrial and/or biocontrol potential. She is also involved in studying the chemical-molecular relationships between plants-endophytes-pathogens for the extraction of bioactive compounds.

Dr. Arano Varela is a member of the National Researchers System of Mexico (Level C) since January 2023 and has supervised or advised a total of one postdoctoral work, 2 undergraduate theses, or social service projects.

Currently, she supervises 3 social service projects, 1 professional internship, and 1 undergraduate thesis. As a result of her work, she has 4 publications in international journals, 2 in popular science magazines, and a book chapter.
