Profile

Professor Ulises Rojas Zamora is a faculty member of the Biotechnology Department at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM), Iztapalapa Campus. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from the Faculty of Chemistry and a Master's degree in Environmental Engineering from the Institute of Engineering, both at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). He earned his Ph.D. from the UAM's Graduate Program in Biotechnology.

His work focuses on the design and analysis of wastewater treatment systems, with an emphasis on generating treated water, energy, and biopolymers. His research contributes to the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), and 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities). He is a Level I member of Mexico's National System of Researchers (SNI).

Professor Rojas is a co-author of the books "Fundamentals of Anaerobic Digestion of Urban Organic Solid Waste" and "Treatment of Greywater Using an Aerobic Granular System," as well as 14 publications, including articles in indexed scientific journals and science communication pieces. He has supervised and advised 4 undergraduate theses and 8 graduate theses. Furthermore, he has served as lead investigator and collaborator on research projects funded by SECIHTI, SECTEI, UAM, and non-profit foundations.
