Profile

Dr. Manuel Triano Enríquez is a professor and researcher in the Department of Politics and Culture at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, Xochimilco Campus. His career combines academic research, the development of a scientific community, and high-impact institutional management, contributing to the production and dissemination of knowledge in the social sciences in Mexico. He has published more than 10 academic texts, including book chapters and institutional reports, and has taught over 40 courses at the undergraduate, specialization, and graduate levels in higher education institutions such as the Xochimilco Campus of UAM, CIDE-Clear, Universidad Iberoamericana, and the Public Administration School of the Government of Mexico City. He has supervised 2 master’s theses and 3 undergraduate theses.

He is the editor of the journal Argumentos. Estudios críticos de la sociedad, where he has actively participated in the double-blind peer review of more than 150 manuscripts (with nearly 400 review reports), ensuring academic quality, efficiency, and transparency. He has promoted the dissemination of published articles through open-access institutional repositories and has ensured that they have permanent standardized identifiers. Since taking over as editor in 2023, the number of manuscripts received has increased by nearly 100 percent, and high-quality feedback to authors has been guaranteed.

He coordinates the Public Policy Evaluation Diploma Program “evaluam.” For one year, he represented the Xochimilco Campus of the UAM before CLACSO, and he is currently responsible for agreements with Coneval and the Inter-American Conference on Social Security.

He serves as an advisor to the DCSH Directorate before the DCSH Editorial Board. He adapted four methodological courses for the Master’s in Public Policy (Xochimilco Campus of UAM). In recent years, he has presented more than 15 papers at national and international conferences and has delivered keynote lectures at higher education institutions such as INSP and Flacso.

He has extensive experience in applied research through the evaluation of programs and public policies. He is a specialist in qualitative analysis, mainly with an ethnographic focus. He has conducted fieldwork in rural, semi-urban, and urban areas, staying for up to a month in communities and neighborhoods; he has conducted interviews with high-level Mexican officials in both Mexico and the United States; and he has led research teams of up to 10 people. He has also applied quantitative analysis to social issues and is proficient in the use of specialized statistical software as well as in processing microdata from complex surveys such as ENIGH and ENOE.

His academic interests include social stratification and mobility throughout the life course, the evaluation of social programs, and reflections on the educational processes of vulnerable groups, as well as the use of quantitative and qualitative strategies to analyze social problems.
