Profile
Dr. Alejandro Islas Jácome got the Bs (Chemistry) in 2006 and PhD (Chemistry) in 2011, both under the guidance of Professor Eduardo González Zamora at UAM, awarded medal for university merit on both occasions.
Subsequently, he was a postdoctoral fellow from 2012 to 2016 at the University of Guanajuato under the advice of Dra. Rocío Gámez Montaño. Later, in 2017, he joined the Department of Chemistry at UAM as a Visiting Professor; and, finally, in 2020 he joined for an indefinite period the academic staff of the same Department as Full-Time Titular Professor "C".
Dr. Islas belongs to the SNII CONAHCyT level 2 and has the desirable PRODEP profile. His areas of specialty are Organic Synthesis and Pharmaco-chemistry. In this context, his lines of research include the synthesis of polyheterocycles via Multicomponent Reactions (MCRs), drug synthesis, synthesis of ligands to assemble new MOFs and click reactions. This has allowed him to publish 51 articles in journals indexed in the Journal of Citation Reports (JCR), in addition to 15 international proceedings.
In 2018 he obtained the diploma for research in the Basic Sciences and Engineering area. Dr. Islas has directed 18 terminal projects with a specialty in organic chemistry, 10 social services and has graduated 1 master's thesis student. He currently directs 2 social services, 1 bachelor's terminal project, 2 master's theses and 2 doctoral thesis. Likewise, it is worth highlighting that he serves as Academic Coordinator of the DCBI Chemistry Teaching Laboratories at the UAM.
