Professor Ruth Perez Lopez studied for her Ph.D. in Social Change at the University of Sciences and Technologies of Lille, France (2006) and is a member of the National System of Researchers, Level I.
She is currently a Professor in the Department of Sociology at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) Azcapotzalco Campus. She has been a Conacyt Professor commissioned to the Laboratory of Cities in Socioecological Transition (LabCit) at the Cuajimalpa Campus (2017-2019) where she directed the project "Sustainable urban mobility plans to work centers to promote and accompany the socioecological transition in transportation and mobility".
She has also been a guest researcher in the project "Practices in public space: at the intersection of identity issues and power relations "at the Institut National d'Études Démographiques de Paris (Sept-Nov.2015), researcher at the Centro de Estudios Mexicanos y Centroamericanos (2011-2015) and postdoctoral fellow at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (2007-2008). Between 2008 and 2011, she worked at the Citizen Observatory of Mexico City (Cuajimalpa Campus), where she coordinated the construction, review and feeding of indicators on issues of citizen culture, public safety, human rights and environment and organized workshops, forums and intersectoral seminars (academia-government-civil society organizations). As a consultant for the Secretariat of the Environment of the Federal District Government (SEDEMA), she directed the surveys "Ecobici, 2012", "Ecobici, 2014" and "Muévete, en bici 2012".
Since 2007, she has participated in different research projects, funded by Conacyt (Ciencia Básica, ECOS), the Ministry of Public Education (PROMEP), the French Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), among others. She has published two scientific books on street populations (Editions Karthala and Ginkgo, Paris) and several articles on urban marginality, youth, urban mobility, transportation, and public space, in addition to giving lectures and presentations on these topics in Paris, Nice, Namur, Quebec, Seoul, Lima, Quito, San José, Managua, Guatemala City, Belo Horizonte and, nationally, in Mexico City, Cholula, Tijuana, Querétaro, and Guadalajara.
In the teaching field, she has been a subject professor in the Communication Sciences degree at Cuajimalpa Campus (2018), visiting professor in the Public Policy degree at Unida Lerma (2016-2017), and a professor of the urban sociology subject in the Master in Projects for Urban Development (MPDU) at Universidad Iberoamericana (2012-2016). She currently teaches in the Sociology degree and in the Master in Metropolitan Planning and Policies at Azcapotzalco Campus.
