Profile

Doctor Ignacio López Moreno is a Research Professor at the Department of Social Processes of the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) Lerma Campus. He is a member of the National System of Researchers and has the Desirable Profile PRODEP. He holds a Ph.D. in Social Sciences from Wageningen University (The Netherlands), a Master's degree in Anthropology of Development and Social Transformation from the University of Sussex (England), and a Bachelor's degree in Social and Cultural Anthropology from the University of Seville (Spain).

He is Head of the Public Policy, Economics, Society and Territory Research Area (PPESyT), Founder of the Mexican Association of Rural Tourism (AMEXTUR), of the Mesoamerican Maize Observatory and of the Maize, Food, Technology and Culture Network (REMATEC). Member of the Working Group on Critical Studies of Rural Development of CLACSO, and of the Institutional Network for the Strengthening of the Social and Solidarity Economy of UAM. Co-coordinator of PRONAII Caminando hacia la Soberanía Alimentaria en México: Fortalecimiento de 10 Territorios-Red Agroecológicos (ForTeRA), technical responsible for the project La gastronomía tradicional como herramienta de desarrollo territorial sustentable: El caso de la Barbacoa Mexiquense and International Coordinator of the project Alimentação, cultura e identidade.

He completed two Postdoctoral Research Stays at the Institute of agriculture and livestock and Rural Sciences of the UAEMex in 2013 and 2014. He was Visiting Professor with support from CAPES Print, of the Programa de Pós-Graduação em Memória Social e Patrimônio Cultural da Universidade Federal de Pelotas in 2021 (Brazil), and of the Programa de Pós-graduação em Patrimônio cultural e sociedade de Univille (Brazil) in 2019. Member of the Basic Academic Core of the Bachelor's Degree in Public Policy (UAM Lerma Campus), of the Master's Degree in Social Sciences (UAM Lerma Campus), and of the Master's Degree in Sustainable Societies (UAM Xochimilco Campus); in the latter two he is also part of the Postgraduate Committee.

His lines of research are generally focused on processes of change in the rural world in Mexico, Latin America, and Europe, and specifically in studies on territorial development, agrifood transitions, and new ruralities. He has participated as coordinator and member in 11 research projects funded to date, six international and five national.

Author of more than 40 publications, including collections, books, articles in indexed journals, and chapters in scientific texts.
