Dr. Villavicencio-Pulido obtained the degree of Bachelor of Mathematics awarded by the Autonomous University of Guerrero in 2001 with the presentation of the thesis “A model of the mutant AIDS virus”, which was developed entirely at the CIMAT (Centro in Research in Mathematics) where he obtained a thesis scholarship. It is at CIMAT that in 2003 he obtained the degree of master of science with a focus on Applied Mathematics, with the presentation of the thesis "Latency, multiple endemic states and backward bifurcation" and the degree of doctor of science with a focus on Mathematics. Applied in 2006, with the presentation of the Thesis “Basic Cycles Associated with the presence of backward bifurcations in epidemiological models”.
Dr. Villavicencio-Pulido has been a teacher for just over 22 years. During this time he has taught more than 100 Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses at different Universities in the Country. In 2019 he won the teaching award in the Division of Biological and Health Sciences. In the period between 2006 and 2010, Dr. Villavicencio-Pulido organized workshops, seminars and conferences related to the applications of mathematics to biology. In 2007, Dr. Villavicencio-Pulido was elected President of the Latin American Society of Mathematical Biology (SOLABIMA), in the city of Campinas, Brazil, a position he held for two years, marking the end of this period with the completion of the “VI Latin American Congress of Mathematical Biology” in the city and port of Acapulco in November 2009.
Dr. Villavicencio Pulido has so far 43 articles in indexed and/or refereed journals, and 4 book chapters. Regarding the training of human resources, he has directed 3 postgraduate theses, 8 undergraduate theses and 4 terminal projects. One of the activities he most enjoys is bringing science to young people. In that sense, he has directed projects in science summers, in which he worked with high school and high school youth from the interior of the country (Mexico). In addition, Dr. Villavicencio has organized Science Workshops for young people and the event called Expomatemáticas.
He was Technical Manager of the Fomix Project “Creation and Strengthening of the Master's Degree in Mathematical Sciences” 2011-2013. Responsible for the PROMEP project. “Development and consolidation of Mathematics Applied to Biology in the state of Guerrero.” 2007-2009. Regarding academic management, in 2010 he was appointed Deputy Director of the 4 nodes that make up the Faculty of Mathematics of the Autonomous University of Guerrero, carrying out the activities associated with the Academic and Administrative Deputy Director. Before being deputy director he was coordinator of the Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics at UAGro.
Since April 2015 he is a full-time professor at the Lerma Campus of the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana. Since that date he has taught teaching-learning units with biomathematics content for the Bachelor of Environmental Biology programs. In addition, he participates in management activities within the University.
