Professor Manuel Rocha Iturbide is a composer, artist, and researcher. He studied composition at the National School of Music of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). He received his master's degree from Mills College and his doctorate in the area of Aesthetics, Science and Technology of Music from the University of Paris VIII.

His music has been performed in important festivals in Mexico, USA, Canada, Latin America, Europe, and Asia, and he has been commissioned by important contemporary music groups and performers such as the Arditti String Quartet, the Mexican ensembles ONIX and Liminar, the Japanese pianist Aki Takahashi, etc.

Professor Rocha Uribe was a recipient of the Young Creators scholarship from FONCA in 1993-94, Japan Foundation in 2000-2001, and National System of Creators in 2004-2007, 2009-2012, 2013-2016 and 2018-2021; in 1996 and 1997 he won two prizes at the Luigi Russolo International Competition in Italy as well as two honorable mentions at the International Electroacoustic Music Competition in Bourges, in 2006 he won first prize in the same competition and in 2009 an honorable mention in ARS ELECTRONICA and in 2013 won the Cuervo prize at the MACO international art fair in Mexico City.

As an artist, he has been presented in important art venues internationally (Galerie Chantal Crousel, Paris France 1994; Artist Space NY, 1997; Biennale of Sydney, Australia 1998; ARCO, Madrid Spain 1999; Binenal do Mercosul, Porto Alegre Brazil, 2005, Koldo de Mitxelena San Sebastian Spain 2007, PRADA Foundation in Venice, 2014, SONICA Glasgow, 2017, etc. He was co-founder and curator of the international festival of sound art (1999-2002), co-founder of the Laboratory of Sound Art Experimentation (LEAS), as well as curator of more than ten exhibitions of sound art and photography.

He is a researcher in the areas of visual arts and music, has several articles and book chapters published as well as two books, El eco está en todas partes (2013) and Desde la escucha. Creación, investigación e intermedia (2017). His last refereed essay was "The origin of a transdisciplinary quantum aesthetics" published in ITAMAR magazine No. 9.
