Profile
Professor Carlos Alberto Méndez Cuesta graduated in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Biology. He has a specialization in Organic Chemistry from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), in 2015. He completed his Master's and Doctorate studies in Chemical Sciences. Specialization in Pharmaceutical and Organic Chemistry from UNAM, in 2007 and 2014, respectively. Subsequently, he completed a Postdoctorate in Laboratory 5 of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Morelos, under the supervision of Dr. Gabriel Navarrete Vázquez.
He is currently an Associate Professor attached to the Department of Biological Systems in the Area of Obtaining and Production of Organic Compounds of the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) Xochimilco Campus since 2016, for an indefinite period of time since 2017.
Incorporated to the research project "Development and application of chiral catalysts for obtaining bioactive compounds and intermediates", project in charge of Dr. Cuauhtémoc Pérez González. He belongs to the Academic Group "The chemical and pharmacological study of compounds isolated from plants and preparation of asymmetric catalysts", directed by Dr. Salud Pérez.
To date, he has ten publications in indexed journals, three book chapters, tutor of undergraduate students, reviewer of several theses and scientific articles, jury of papers for various conferences, has taught courses and lectures at the Faculty of Chemistry of the UNAM, the University of Guanajuato, UAEMorelos and the Xochimilco Campus of the UAM. Participant in the modification of the syllabus of the Heterocyclic Chemistry and Natural Products Module of the Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Biology program at the Xochimilco Campus, part of the committee for the development of the syllabus of the Master's Degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences.
His lines of research include Design and synthesis of compounds with antiparasitic and anticancer activity; Molecular docking studies of bioactive substances; Synthesis of nanoparticles as carriers of active substances; Isolation of bioactive substances from natural products. He belongs to the National System of Researchers Level I in the CONACYT in the period 2018-2021 and has the PRODEP Recognition to Desirable Profile for the period 2019-2022.
