Profile

Dr. Jorge Ismael Castañeda Sánchez is a Full-Time Senior Professor-Researcher at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana. He holds the rank of National Researcher Level II in Mexico's Sistema Nacional de Investigadoras e Investigadores (SNII) and holds PRODEP Desirable Profile recognition. His primary research lines focus on the innate skin immune response to infections, the diagnosis of actinomycetes and their drug susceptibility, and the mechanisms of pathogenicity and virulence of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Nocardia brasiliensis.

He teaches in the Pharmaceutical Biological Chemistry undergraduate program, serves as a tutor and core faculty member in the Master's Program in Pharmaceutical Sciences, and is a tutor and former General Coordinator for the Doctoral Program in Biological and Health Sciences across UAM's Cuajimalpa, Lerma, Iztapalapa, and Xochimilco campuses. Furthermore, he serves as head of the Academic Group "Studies on Virulence Factors of Bacteria and Fungi and Their Role in Host-Parasite Interactions."

He is an active member of the Mexican Society of Immunology, the Mexican Association of Infectology and Clinical Microbiology, the Mexican Association of Medical Mycology, and the European Network for the Study of Nontuberculous Mycobacteria (NTM-net). He maintains research collaborations with the Research Unit at the Instituto de Oftalmología Conde de Valenciana IAP, the National School of Biological Sciences at the Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN), and the Faculty of Medicine and Institute of Biotechnology at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM).
