Profile
Professor Mónica Liliana Salazar Peláez is Colombian and studied Sanitary Engineering at the Universidad de Antioquia (Medellín, Colombia). She completed her Master's degree in Water Resources, and Environmental Sanitation at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (Porto Alegre, Brazil) and her Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM).
She is an Associate Professor and has PRODEP profile. As an undergraduate professor she teaches general chemistry and environmental chemistry. At the graduate level, she teaches water pollution control and biological processes.
Her main area of interest is anaerobic wastewater treatment, where she has studied the application of UASB reactors and some of their modifications in the treatment of domestic, municipal and slaughterhouse water. She has also studied the kinetics and hydraulics in these reactors. She is currently venturing into the production of bioplastics in biological reactors.
She has published more than ten articles in JCR indexed journals and participated in numerous conferences of specialists in his field. She has directed and co-directed several theses at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
She is responsible for the Divisional Project "Biotechnologies for Wastewater Treatment" and participates as a Member of the Study Committee of the Master in Environmental Science and Engineering. She is also a member of the International Water Association (IWA) and the Mexican Association of Environmental Engineering, Science and Management (AMICA).
