Profile
Professor Israel Labastida Núñez is an Environmental Engineer from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana(UAM), Master in Minerals Engineering, Universidad Autónoma de San Luis Potosí and Doctor of Science, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). He has received scholarships from CONACYT and SEP for graduate studies.
He is an Associate Professor, Honorary member of the Advisory Board of the Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Engineering and member of the Study Committee of the Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Engineering. He holds the distinction of Level I of the National System of Researchers (SNI) and has PRODEP profile.
He has several publications in journals indexed in the Journal of Citation Reports (JCR), book chapters, and extensive memories. He has participated in numerous national and international conferences. His lines of research are related to: physicochemical treatment of water (waste and groundwater), treatment of acid mine drainage, remediation of soils contaminated with inorganics, bioaccessibility, and geochemical mobility of metals. He has been responsible for an external research project sponsored by SEP.
He has been a participant in internal research projects focused on water and soils. He has directed or co-directed numerous Integration Projects of the Environmental and Chemical Engineering degrees. He has been a member of the Studies Committee of the Chemical Engineering Degree and Academic Responsible of the Wastewater Treatment Pilot Plant of the Azcapotzalco Campus of the UAM.
In the Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Engineering he has taught the UEA of: Environmental Sciences and Sustainability, Physicochemical Processes in Environmental Engineering, Biological Processes in Environmental Engineering, Water Treatment Processes Workshop and Water Quality Analysis Workshop, among others. In the Graduate Program in Environmental and Materials Science and Engineering, he has taught the UEA of Water Pollution Control, Physicochemical Processes and Soil Pollution.
He maintains research collaborations with the Institute of Geophysics of UNAM, Universidad Juarez del Estado de Durango, Universidad Autonoma de San Luis Potosi and Universidad de Guanajuato. He is part of the initiative called Inventario Nacional de Calidad del Agua (INCA), which is a collaborative network between academic institutions and civil organizations aimed at assessing and addressing water contamination problems in sites at risk for hydroarsenism and hydrofluorosis in Mexico.
